Abel's Island - TV Cartoon Special

Abel and Amanda, newlywed mice, go on a picnic one afternoon in 1907. A storm ends up washing Abel away down a stream, into a river, and eventually onto a small island. There he is stranded and the once-spoiled mouse must look to nature to survive. Abel misses his wife terribly and thinks of her constantly. He tries to find a way off the island and ways to communicate home.

Award-winning animator Michael Sporn produced this animated adaptation based on the Newbery Honor book, Abel's Island by William Steig. The animation was done in the same style as the author's illustrations. The film was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming Less Than One Hour).
